Students in grades 9 – 12 (7th and 8th graders by selective classification) are able to participate in sports at the JV and varsity levels. The practices are generally from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Game times vary.

Class Activities

Each class has officers and an advisor to assist with the planning and implementations of various class activities throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to participate as a class in homecoming activities, school dances and fundraisers. All classes are working to build their treasuries in anticipation of senior year activities (prom, etc.).

Masterminds

This is a jeopardy-style program with students practicing and competing with students from other schools. Chess Club is also a component of the Masterminds program. Our students have been very successful in this program. (Mike Crissman)

 

Musical

The musical is for students in grades 7 – 12. Students must try out for a part in the musical. Try-outs take place in November, practices begin at the end of January and go through the musical performance in March. Practices generally run from 2:30 to 3:05 p.m. or from 3:15 until around 5 p.m. One weekend day practice generally occurs in February and March. (Dan Burke)

 

National Honor Society

Students in the NHS have met criteria for induction in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. These students generally do service projects in the school and community throughout the year. (Russ Albright)

 

Newspaper

This is a student run newspaper. Up to five issues are published yearly. Students come up with the ideas for the articles, research and write the articles as well as lay out the newspaper.

Odyssey of the Mind

This group meets generally in the evenings to get ready for regional competitions. It is open to students in all grades. Our teams have done very well in the past and have won regional competitions. (Karen Quaranto)

 

Ski Club

All students have the opportunity to participate in Ski Club if they wish. Ski Club has 4 – 8 trips a winter offering our students an opportunity to go to Swain to ski. These trips are scheduled for Saturdays or Sundays. Dan Orbaker coordinates and chaperones the trips. (Dan Orbaker and Aaron Spyra)

 

Spanish Club

This is a very popular club. Students meet about once a month with the advisor to plan and participate in activities, such as the Halloween hayride, Holiday Fiesta, Cinco de Mayo celebration, dances, etc. (Kathy Monks and Tammy Menzie)

 

Student Council

This is the student government for high school students. Each grade has representatives that meet regularly to make plans for student activities. The high school student council plans and coordinates homecoming, sponsors some dances, contributes to charities, services the recycling and clothing drive initiatives, and is involved in many high school student initiatives.

Grades 9-12

 

Technology Club

Students will again attend Tech Wars at Genesee Community College after a successful trip last year. The club will also do building projects, such as a play house, which they can raffle when complete. Students are encouraged to take the club in whatever direction they choose. (Tim Rogers)

 

Yearbook

Students work with the advisor to actually design the yearbook for the school year. Students typically stay after school periodically to work on the book. There may be some evening or weekend meetings in completing the yearbook. The members of the high school yearbook staff also do some fundraising throughout the year to help defray the cost.
