District Update - May 22, 2020

Greetings Families and all in the Holley School Community,

Yesterday, Governor Cuomo announced that there will be no in-person programs for this upcoming summer. Therefore, any sort of “summer school” would need to be done through remote learning, as we have been doing. We are awaiting additional guidance from our BOCES Regional Summer School to provide more information to our secondary students who may be interested in that program. We will share more detailed information about summer, including our food distribution plans, as soon as more information is available.

The Governor also stated that it is too early to determine what our situation will need to be in order to open school in September. He indicated that safe opening guidelines will be issued in June, so schools can plan for various scenarios.  We will do all that is mandated to ensure a safe return for our students and staff, as soon as that’s possible.

I have been asked about when the last day of school is for this year.  As you know, our original school calendar had school going until June 26, with our graduation occurring on Saturday, June 27.  We still plan to continue with a commencement ceremony for our graduating seniors on June 27 and have been working with the Health Department to not only have the best event possible for our seniors and their families, but to ensure the safety of all by complying with local and state mandates. We are awaiting some additional guidance about our legal number of days needed for State Aid before determining our last day of school, but expect that decision to be announced next week.  Thank you for your patience.

You should have received a postcard indicating our budget information and voting process. All voting will be done via absentee ballots this year; the ballots will be mailed out to eligible voters following our Budget Hearing. Our Budget Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at 6 p.m.  There will be a Zoom meeting login posted on our district website to participate in the budget hearing with the Board of Education.  All ballots will have to be returned to the district by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.  If you don’t receive a ballot, you can request one by emailing [email protected]. Please contact us at 638-6316 ext. 2003, if you have any questions about this process.

I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming holiday weekend and nicer weather.  Memorial Day is a special and honored day to remember those who lost their lives serving our great country.  Thank you for taking some time to remind our students about why we have Memorial Day.  We missed having our annual assembly here at school to honor our fallen heroes, and we appreciate you discussing it at home.

Thank you again for all you’re doing, and please remind our students that we miss them dearly.

Stay Strong, Holley!

Brian Bartalo
