Flapjack Fundraiser Raises Money for RMHC

On Sunday, March 1, the winter cheerleading team hosted a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee’s in Batavia to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Rochester, NY. This fundraiser has special meaning for the Holley school community this year as junior Evan Valentine has been battling leukemia since the fall, and he is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this spring at Golisano Children’s Hospital. His family stays at the Ronald McDonald House during Evan’s hospitalizations.

The Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful home away from home for families of critically ill children. The house has 24 rooms for families, and it provides meals, laundry services and email services. The fee is $10 a night, but no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. RMHC is funded by donations.

The Varsity Winter Cheerleaders, members of the JV cheerleading squad, coaches Penny Cole and Heather Kelley, and volunteer Corrinda Shepherd served breakfast and cleaned up after diners. Science teacher Sheri Girvin acted as hostess. The fundraiser was well attended by parents, grandparents, Holley staff, and a few basketball officials, including Rich Dibble, Chairman of the Ronald McDonald All-Star Basketball games.

Due to the support of our amazing parents and staff at Holley CSD, plus a very kind donation from the Palermos, the team raised $1,550 for the RMHC! The cheerleaders will present a check to RMHC as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and Evan is able to join them. This is the team’s eighth year of fundraising for RMHC. “We are so proud of all our cheerleaders that have worked so tirelessly throughout the years to give back,” said Coach Penny Cole. “Thanks to all their efforts, we have raised over $13,000 to date for RMHC!”
