Here's the second of a series of articles that captured what happened in September at the start of the 2020-21 school year. Note: Photos of students, staff and families were taken following appropriate coronavirus measures that were in place at that time.
This year, Holley students were invited to attend one of three orientation sessions before school started on Sept. 14.
Middle School/High School students walked through abbreviated versions of their schedules with parents/guardians on Sept. 10-11. Each student registered for a session based on their placement into the Red Hawks or White Hawks cohort. Safety procedures and changes in policies for this year were reviewed with students. Administrators asked students to follow the mantra of “stand up, mask up” meaning that if they are in a classroom where they are seated six feet apart from classmates and they aren’t wearing their masks, they must put their masks on before standing up and moving around the room to be in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.
Elementary School students and up to two parents/guardians registered for an hour-long session to meet with their classroom teachers. Students were able to drop off their school supplies, find their desks and/or lockers, receive their laptops, return forms, and access online learning. Pre-K students also practiced getting on an off a school bus. The orientation sessions gave families a chance to ask questions about some of the new procedures for this year, such as remote learning days, health office procedures, meal program, and arrival and dismissal processes.
Students and staff were happy to be reunited at school again, and they look forward to new ways of learning together this year.
