Student Health Reminders

Due to the increase in the number of students that have been sent home ill or have missed school due to illness, here are the guidelines for when your child should be sent to school:

  • Fever: Must be free of fever for 24 hours - without fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea: Must be symptom-free for 24 hours; If a student vomits or has diarrhea during the night or in the morning, keep student home that day.
  • Strep Throat or Scarlet Fever: 24 hours after start of treatment.
  • Chicken Pox: After old blisters have formed scabs and there are no new ones.
  • Conjunctivitis (pinkeye): After treated with antibiotics for 24 hours.
  • Head Lice: After head is treated and free of live lice or nits (eggs).
  • Scabies (Body Lice): 24 hours after start of treatment.
  • Impetigo: After skin is clear or child has been under treatment for 24 hours.
In following these guidelines, we hope to decrease the spread of infection and maintain a healthy environment.  Please do not send medication with your student; we need to have all medication brought in by a parent/guardian with a written prescription from your physician.  If your child has any of the above illnesses that have been confirmed by a physician, please notify the school as soon as possible.

Your child’s education and wellness is our number one priority. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the ES Health Office at 638-6318, ext. 2404.

A copy of the letter that was sent home is attached. It can also be found on the Virtual Backpack page, under ES Information/Events Downloads heading.
