The Holley School District would like to make families aware of some potentially dangerous situations currently occurring on-line and through various social media apps. 

The first is a “game” circulating on social media called the Momo Challenge. Momo is a popular social media account found on WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube. The “Momo” itself is a creepy looking image, like a distorted doll, that encourages viewers to contact them via private message, then sends graphic, violent images and challenges. These challenges are said to include acts of self-harm or even suicide. Some news outlets are reporting this challenge as a hoax and we certainly hope that is the case. Either way, we wanted to provide you with a few details about the “Momo Challenge,” along with a few additional resources for your awareness and to use to talk to your children.

Other recent trends include kids sharing very personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, pictures and videos) on social media apps such as Like, Yobu, TikTok and other similar apps.

As a district, we incorporate digital citizenship into our curriculum, which includes the dangers around the internet and social media. Our staff will continue to do our best to closely monitor students when they are using electronic devices, as well as monitoring student conversations for references to this or any other unsafe behaviors.
