District Update – August 6, 2020 – Family Questionnaire
Greetings Families and all in the Holley School Community,

Although the Governor has still not made a decision about how schools in NY State can open in September, Holley CSD is preparing for in-person learning for the 2020-21 school year. Our reopening plan could reflect the hybrid model that we developed, or an even more fully in-person plan, particularly for some Special Education and English Language Learners, and possibly for our younger students, if conditions allow.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Governor Cuomo and the NYS Education Department have allowed families the option of keeping their children at home and requesting 100% remote instruction, similar to what we experienced in the spring of 2020.  Given this option, we are asking all parents/guardians of Holley CSD students to complete a questionnaire by August 14, so that we can best prepare schedules, staffing and transportation.

Please note that if you request 100% remote (at-home) instruction, delivered by Holley CSD, you will be committing to this plan for at least the first academic quarter (10 weeks).  This is imperative for our planning and scheduling, especially for transportation and classroom limits.  You will have the opportunity to re-evaluate your choice prior to the end of the first quarter and make a decision for the second quarter of the year at that time.  It’s also important to know that remote learning will look different than it did this past spring.  We will have expectations for daily attendance, grades, assessments, synchronous (live) and asynchronous (posted lessons, videos, etc.) instruction.

Requesting that your student(s) receive 100% remote instruction does not indicate a request for homeschooling.  Homeschooling your student(s) is when the teaching and learning occurs outside the school, with no instruction or materials provided by the Holley CSD.  Homeschooling families take the full responsibility for the entire education of their children.  If you’re interested in homeschooling and haven’t formally requested that yet, you will have to indicate that choice in writing through our office of Special Programs and meet all the conditions required of homeschooling by NYS.  If you have any questions about this distinction, please contact a school administrator.

Please complete the online form linked to this message for each student you have that will be enrolled in Holley for the 2020-21 school year.  We need the information from this survey to be accurate, so we can plan for this school year.  Thank you for completing this very short questionnaire by Friday, August 14.
