Help the ES Library Create a "Pumpkin Patch" This Year!

In lieu of the usual Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest, the Holley ES Library is hosting a Book Character Pumpkin Patch. We hope to display outside the ES Library pumpkins that students decorate.

Students in Pre-K-grade 6 are invited to participate. Participation is voluntary. The theme for the pumpkin patch is "My Favorite Book Character." Select a character from any book you have read and decorate your pumpkin to resemble that character. Pumpkins can be decorated or painted, but absolutely no carved or punctured pumpkins will be accepted, as they rot quickly indoors.

Hot glue guns work well to attach any decorations to pumpkins (use a glue gun with an adult's help or supervision). Yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, cloth, wigs, old costumes, paper plates, cups, etc. can be used to decorate the pumpkins. Acrylic or spray paint, or permanent markers work well when drawing/painting pumpkins. Pumpkins should be decorated primarily by students, with help from family members if needed.

Use a 3"x5" index card to identify your pumpkin and include with your submission the name of the book character, book title and author of the book on the front of the card, and your name, grade and teacher's name on the back of the card.

Submit all pumpkins prior to Oct. 30. Students can begin bringing pumpkins to the library on Oct. 15. Pumpkins can also be submitted virtually by sending a photo and information to Julie Bader at [email protected]. These submissions will be printed and included as part of the display outside the library.

All pumpkins must be picked up by Nov. 6. Any remaining pumpkins will be discarded after this date. If pumpkins begin to rot before this date, they will be discarded.
