Holley Science Teacher Accepted into NYS Master Teacher Program
Holley CSD has its first Master Teacher. Sheri Girvin, high school science teacher and Holley 2001 alum, has been accepted into the New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP). The NYSMTP is a four-year venture that connects K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educators with a statewide, professional network of leaders to share best practices for creating inspiring learning environments. She is one of approximately 1,500 teachers accepted into the program since its inception in 2013.
Girvin has worked in education since 2005 and began teaching at Holley in 2019. She currently teaches Regents Chemistry, Regents Physics, and an elective titled the Science of Food and Toys. She is a 2017 recipient of the Rising Star Award from St. John Fisher University for excellence in STEM education.
“I am looking forward to working collaboratively with other STEM educators,” said Girvin. “As the only physics and chemistry teacher in the district, it is nice to have a network to encourage my growth in the areas of pedagogy and STEM content. The program will be an invaluable resource as high school science instruction changes in NYS.”
The program, facilitated by the State University of New York (SUNY), is not only meant to benefit students, but fellow educators, as it allows for those in the program to develop their leadership skills and share their work with teachers in their districts. Holley CSD congratulates Girvin on this prestigious achievement and looks forward to supporting her growth.
