District Update - May 15, 2020

Greetings Families and all in the Holley School Community,

As our region of the state enters phase 1 of “Unpause NY,” this past week hasn’t seen too many changes at the school district.  However, what has changed is how we operate during this COVID-19 pandemic. We have shifted to remote learning and food deliveries from the school district, and we have worked from home and been socially distant.  We have seen many things in our lives change.  That change even reflects how we conduct our normal process for a budget vote and a school board election.

As has been mentioned, you soon will be receiving a postcard with all the voting information you will need for this year’s budget vote and Board of Education election.  Please be on the lookout for that.  This week, the Holley Board of Education approved our 2020-21 budget and acknowledged three eligible candidates for two seats on the Board.

The district has prepared a balanced and efficient budget that we feel is responsible to the community and maintains a high priority on our students and programs.  The budget reflects no increase from last year’s and is below the tax cap.  Given the uncertain times ahead, we have prepared a budget that maintains our educational and extracurricular options for students and continues to make safety a priority.  Please note that we will be having a Budget Hearing on May 26 at 6 p.m. via Zoom, where the budget will be presented, along with a “meet the school board candidates” opportunity. A detailed budget newsletter will be mailed out prior to the vote and it will also be posted on our website.

As a reminder, all voting will be done via absentee ballots this year; ballots must be returned to the district by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.  We will be mailing out ballots to eligible voters, which will include a postage-paid return envelope to send the ballot back to the district.  If you don’t receive a ballot, you can request one by emailing [email protected]. Please contact us at 638-6316, ext. 2003, if you have any questions about this process.

Thank you once again for supporting our students’ learning needs during this time.  We miss them all very much.  If you need any support or have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for doing your best to remain safe and healthy.

Stay Strong, Holley!
