Painting is an advanced course that is designed to enrich and enhance the student’s experience in two-dimensional Art. Students will continue to be exposed to a variety of artists, Art styles with an emphasis on skill building. Media will include watercolor and acrylic paint. There will be a continued focus on the Elements and Principles of Design, aesthetic awareness, problem-solving, and developing observation and technical skills. Students will apply these skills, through authentic assessments, while connecting their Art to artists and art styles. Craftsmanship and creativity will be encouraged through student’s individual approach to the materials. Emphasis is placed on process and craftsmanship through skill development, observation, experimentation, and critique. Analysis of historical, cultural and contemporary Art will broaden students’ understanding of the artistic process, fuel ideas, and empower them in seeing and interpreting the world around them.
