Greetings Holley Families,
The entire Holley CSD campus will be closed on “Eclipse Day”, Monday April 8th, 2024. You have likely heard, seen on the news, or read from various media sources, that our area is in a prime viewing location for this total eclipse of the sun event. Local officials are predicting and preparing for tens of thousands of people to enter this region to view the eclipse.
There is no school for students on April 8th, which is the last day of our spring recess. With reports of a high volume of people coming to this area and concerns for public safety (many out-of-town visitors, huge crowds, traffic backing up roads and highways etc.), we made the decision with local community leaders and first responders, to close the campus completely. This means that no one will be working here on April 8th, there will be no access to the schools, and there will be no planned activities that will take place on our campus at all that day or evening.
Please note the following:
- The campus will be closed which means no sports practices or games, club meetings, community activities (walking the building or using the fitness center in the Elem. School), or any “special events” for Eclipse viewing at any time on April 8th, 2024.
- The Holley CSD driveways and parking areas will be closed off to visitors here for the Eclipse.
- We have hired security staff to police and monitor our campus.
- All local and NYS rules for school grounds will be enforced, which means that no alcohol, smoking, or drug use will be permitted, if by chance someone walks on to school grounds to view the eclipse.
Parents, we have secured a donation (thank you SUNY Brockport!) of solar eclipse viewing glasses which will be provided to every student here at no cost! Our plan is to distribute the safety glasses the week of March 25th, so parents will not need to purchase them for their students who attend Holley.
