Holley MS/HS junior MacKenzie Fiorito, has been selected to represent Holley and Orleans County at Empire Girls State this summer. The leadership and citizenship program hosted by American Legion Auxiliary at SUNY Brockport focuses on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics. Qualified juniors are interviewed and selected by a committee to participate. Throughout the week, participants create a mythical 51st state where they elect their own officials including county officials, judges, and a governor. They organize different parties, introduce and debate bills, and carry out the duties of the office in which they were appointed or elected. “We are so proud of MacKenzie and know she is going to represent Holley well. We cannot wait to hear all about her accomplishments at Girls State,” said Nicole Solazzo, Holley MS/HS School Counselor.
